# Appending to Notes

> Add more to an existing note without starting over

Had another thought? Append it to an existing note instead of creating a new one.

## Append by Voice

1. Open the note you want to add to
2. Tap the **Continue** button (iPhone/iPad) or press `⇧ + N` (Mac)
3. Speak your new thoughts — Cleft adds them to the end of your note

## Append by Text

Open the note in edit mode, place your cursor where you want to add content, and type. See [Editing & Formatting Notes](/user-guides/editing-notes) for more on the editor.

## Merge Two Notes

Have related thoughts in separate notes? Combine them:

1. Select two notes
2. Long-press (iPhone/iPad) or right-click (Mac) and choose **Merge**

<Info>
  Merging can't be undone — consider duplicating a note first if you want to keep the original.
</Info>

## Unified Summary (Plus)

When you append multiple voice recordings, Cleft merges everything into one cohesive summary — no duplicates, logical flow, action items consolidated. This respects your [custom instructions](/user-guides/custom-instructions), so your formatting stays consistent across all merged content.
