# Languages

> Transcription language options and what's officially supported

Cleft can attempt transcription in 60+ languages. The 58 listed below have good accuracy based on Whisper benchmarks — US English gets the best results. Everything else uses the same model but hasn't been officially tested.

## Changing Your Language

Go to **Settings > General** and use the **Transcription Language** picker. Choose a specific language or leave it on **Auto-Detect**.

Based on [Whisper benchmarks](https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/speech-to-text/supported-languages/#supported-languages), these 57 languages score below 50% word error rate (WER) — the standard threshold for usable speech-to-text accuracy:

Languages not listed above may still return results, but you might see garbled output or mixed-language text.
