Accessing Settings

Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner of the notes list.

iOS / iPadOS Settings

On iPhone and iPad, settings are organised into six sections.

General

  • Appearance. Light, Dark, or System theme.
  • Language. Transcription language (55+ supported, or Auto-Detect).
  • Date Format. Choose how dates appear throughout the app.

Writing Style

  • Custom Instructions (Plus). Tell Cleft how to format your notes.
  • Auto-Copy (Plus). Automatically copy new notes to clipboard.
Custom instructions have a 500-character limit. Be specific about formatting preferences.

Integrations

  • Notion (Plus). Connect, pick a database, and choose how notes flow:
    • Auto-send to Notion. Every finished recording lands in your chosen database automatically. Pauses itself after three failed sends with a banner that explains how to retry.
    • Archive after Send. Move a note to your Archived filter the moment a manual Send to Notion succeeds. Manual Send only.

  • Zapier (Plus). Connect to 8,000+ apps via automation.
  • Obsidian (Plus). Export notes as Markdown files.
  • API Keys. Manage developer access.

Account

  • What’s Included. View your plan features.
  • Manage Subscription. Upgrade or manage billing.
  • Email. Update your account email.
  • Display Name. Change your name.
  • Log Out. Sign out of Cleft.
  • Delete Account. Permanently remove your account and data.

  • Help & Support. Get assistance.
  • Send Feedback. Share ideas or report issues.

macOS Settings

On Mac, settings are organised into five tabs. Open the window with ⌘, and click between tabs.

General

Cleft macOS General settings: theme, language, date format, audio devices
  • Theme. Light, Dark, or Match System.
  • Launch at Startup. Start Cleft when your Mac starts.
  • Language. Transcription language (Auto-Detect or 55+ languages).
  • Date Format. Choose how dates appear throughout the app.
  • Time Format. 12-hour or 24-hour clock.
  • Preflight Mode. Download notes for offline reading.
  • Input Device. Select your microphone.
  • Output Device. Select audio output for playback.

Integrations

  • Zapier (Plus). Connect to 8,000+ apps via automation.
  • Notion (Plus). Connect, pick a database, and choose how notes flow:
    • Auto-send to Notion. Every finished recording lands in your chosen database automatically.
    • Archive after Send. Move a note to Archived the moment a manual Send to Notion succeeds.

  • Local Sync Folder (Plus). Auto-export notes as .md files to Obsidian, Bear, Logseq, or any folder.

Style

  • Output Style (Plus). Tell Cleft how to format your notes. 500-character limit.
  • Copy Format. Choose Plaintext or Markdown for auto-copy and ⌘C.
  • Cleft Signature. Add “Scribed by Cleft” to copied notes.

Account

  • Account. Your email address.
  • Plan. Current subscription tier.
  • Manage Subscription. Upgrade or manage billing.
  • Log Out of Cleft. Sign out (notes stay safe in the cloud).
  • Delete Account. Permanently remove your account and all data.
