Three ways to find what you’re looking for: filters, tags, and search.

Filters

Your notes list has built-in views you can switch between:
  • All — Every note in your library
  • Archived — Notes you’ve put away but kept
  • Shared Links — Notes with an active shareable link
On Mac, switch filters with ⌘ + ⇧ + [ and ⌘ + ⇧ + ].

Tags

Tags let you label notes so you can find them later. Open a note, tap Add Tag (or press ⌘L on Mac), and type a name or pick from the suggestions. You can add up to 3 tags per note. Tap any tag to filter your notes list to just the notes with that label. Tags also show up as their own filters alongside All, Archived, and Shared Links.

Bulk Tag Management

Select multiple notes to see their shared tags, add a tag across all of them, or remove tags in bulk.
Tags work with Apple Shortcuts and Zapier for automated workflows.
Pull down on your notes list (iPhone/iPad) or press ⌘ + / (Mac) to search by note title. Results update as you type.

Spotlight

Spotlight searches deeper — across titles, transcripts, summaries, and tags. Requires iOS 18+ or macOS 15+.
  • iPhone and iPad — Swipe down from the home screen and start typing
  • Mac — Press ⌘ + Space and start typing
  • Works offline, no internet connection needed
Can’t find a note with in-app search? Try Spotlight — it searches the full text of every note, not just titles.
